Natural Rhapsody
05/12/03
Last night as I drove alone
Darkness a quiet shroud
The sound of tires on gravel
In the stillness
A sound quite loud
I saw the moon arising
It's beautiful light surprising
And I found myself surmising
Of what it is you do.

By "what", I mean,
To me
For it is truly plain to see
That there is more
To this score
Than mere simple harmony.

At times the powerful fanfare
Trumpets loud and true
Or the longing whisper
Of the cello
When hearts are feeling blue.

The soft sweet cries
The gentle sighs
Of violins and harps
Make way for the sound
That my heart needs found
A small but wanted need
The gentle tremble
The caressing touch
Of a lost and lonely reed.

Play for me
The symphony
And let our hearts remain
Forever here
Between laugh and tear
Our musical refrain.

Remember Me
07/06/03

As you stand atop the cliffs
O'er the foaming sea
As skies glow with dying rays
Signaling the end of day
That is when you'll think of me

When winds howl at Winter's traces
And the moon dances in the clouds
Look toward distant places
Past all remembered faces
That is where I'll be found

When seasons long have birthed and died
And all the options have been tried
When memories have long since faded
And youthful thirsts have long been sated
Walk you to the cliffs o'er the foaming sea
Stop and think to remember me.

If the moon, rain and shooting star
Give your eyes a cause to cry
Stop them gentle with a sigh
And think back not very far

To a time when you wandered
Free of the cost
Of all your earthly burdens
And stumbled into the void
And found me sitting, waiting; Lost.

Fae
07/15/03

Playing in meadows
Or beneath a church steeple
Both in daylight and shadow
I play amongst the faery people

On winter's night, while winds blow
I can see their ethereal light shine
They dance festive in the snow
Where we mortals stumble blind

In spring they fly with speed unseen
By anything housed in stables
It's the season of joy filled with a damp sheen
From rains as they fall on roof and gable

It was then I saw, under the fae moon
An image I shall not soon forget
A blur of gossamer wings beating in tune
With my heart and it's regret

A pale face and golden tresses
Silken skin glowing in moonlight
Leaves and flowers made up her dresses
In full raiment, a beautifully simple sight

We talked and walked many times
Of lives and dreams or nothing at all
There amongst the shelter of pines
Is where I first began to fall

Early summer brought my lady fae
Upon me with demands of a thief
Laughingly I tore a corner away
From my nicest handkerchief

Midsummer night I awoke with a start
Caused by the smallest, lightest kiss
A sensation so tremendous I felt it in my heart
A feeling that for many years I would miss

"I have you", came the sound
like a thousand miniature bells
Her voice caused the lost to be found
and the most hardened heart to swell

She darted back so that I could admire
The beautiful gown from my earlier gift
It shone in the dark with a shimmering fire
The scrap of cloth and magic dust a perfect fit

She laughed and danced a beautiful spiral
Explaining the meaning of the act
Not stopping the whole while
"I shall explain it " she said, "its all fact"

"There are dances for all, in the palace of roses
At midsummer we dance to life when the moon is low
And chose our loves to be happy as one supposes
Then at midwinter we dance to our ends in the snow"

I scarcely listened to what she said
So enthralled was I by the sight
Long after her exit as I lay in my bed
I dreamt of her dancing throughout the night

One night while preparing for the holiest of days
I heard a clink on my window it's sound very faint
She was dressed in her gown, my beautiful lady fae
"Come with me, come to me. This cannot wait"

"I have loved you all my life, you are within me
I say that now before I must dance once again
I have you to thank for helping me see
That I could love such as you and call you a friend"

"Bear witness to this, and see with your heart
That what I feel is true and I am happy to dance"
With a small kiss and caress she flew up to start
I stood in the cold wind in a wide-open stance.

A beautiful spiral with the occasional loop
I remembered before I dreamt in my bed
Another remembrance with each spiral and swoop
"We dance to our ends in the snow" is what she had said...

In the spring when flowers begin to bloom
When songbirds fill the vastness of days
I leave the confines of my room
To place fresh flowers
Near the marker of my lady Fae.

Phoenix
08/15/03

To me she came with whispered kiss
From somewhere deep within the fairy mist
In glittering eyes that shine and tear
I lost my heart, my pain, and fear.

Her laughter echoes to my delight
As I think of her aspect on cloud shrouded nights
A tune without music, a vision without form
On such nights as this I am reborn

A playing smile through half closed eyes
A turn during sleep, a whispering sigh
I think of it all as I think it should be
A jumble of thoughts is her legacy

I think of her most when alone in the silence
Alone in the dark far from the sadness and violence
When the world seems to stop to view the stars twinkle and shine
It is then that I know her heart is mine

When The Sun Falls Down
08/25/03

What did you do when you woke up this morning?
What will you do when the sun falls down?
I want to tell you of just how much I love you
But I'm as lost as a king without a crown

I think of you as the sun beats down upon me
I cry for you as the stars illuminate my tears
Where will I go and who will I turn to
When I give in to all my fears

A home is a place where you store your heart
And a life isn't a life without something to share
How can I show you all the things deep inside me?
How can I show you that I care?

Pick up the phone to hear your sweet voice
Just thinking of it makes my heart pound
I keep coming back to the same old question:
What will you do when the sun falls down?

The Walker
09/05/03

A man walks by my house
Every day at this same time
He looks deep in thought
His eyes reflecting all but his soul

A few times he smiles
It's genuine and heartfelt
It's a nice surprise
Like a warm breeze in the shadows

I wonder what he sees
As one foot leads the other
I know it's more than the sidewalk
That fills his vision

Is he friendly?
Is he sad?
Perhaps he's lonely
He always walks alone

He walks tired
I know.
A hard day at the office
He looks forward to home

Perhaps a wife and child
Maybe only a dog
Or maybe in his home
There is nothing at all

Interesting,
The things a person dreams up
Without a background
Or even a name

One can speculate
Of the troubles he contemplates
But I myself don't have the time
I'm late for my walk.

If I Fell
12/16/03

Silence is the only sign
Of losing my faith
I'd sell my soul for small change
Just enough to call someone who cares

Take my soul

Stay the night I promise,
I'll force a smile
Just one night in the rain
One fantasy, just one
We'll pretend and hold each other

These dark wet streets
Theses avenues of liquid blue
So alive with unseen life
So open with all their secrets

It's home

Tell me prophet
What is right or wrong?
Tell me from high atop your soapbox
Because I just don't know anymore

The screen tells the truth
I saw it in all the papers
We have nothing at all to fear

We are the highest glory

So why do I question?
There isn't any reason
Yet I feel it growing and falling
Into the cold and damp

The questions plunge into you
With a force of thunder and wind
Let's find shelter from this storm
A warm fire and a little comfort

There's some in the bottom of this bottle

So many questions
I don't want answers
But while we're on the subject...

Tell me prophet
Can you spare some change?

Tell Tale Tie
01/02/04

The clock on the wall ticks away
just a few more minutes and it ends
another emotional work week
Tick tock tick tock

A head appears in the doorway
a comic look glued to a grin
"Come with us and have a drink -
quiet little place down the street"

Different room, different sounds
Ice in a glass keeping time
clink clink clink clink
Condensation leaves a ring

A tap on the shoulder
a voice at my back
"Allow me to be pleasantly surprised"
She smiles and fingers my tie

"You're allowed" comes my reply
"But surprised for what reason?"
She laughs and takes my glass
"Scotch, is it? Should have known by the tie"

Still holding the tie she asks, "want to dance?"
"There's no music," I say
"shhhhh..." is her reply

Thoughts, Words And Everything In Between
01/12/04

Life is not what I thought it should be
A picture perfect postcard fantasy
All the plans and all the dreams
All the hopes in between

One can spend a life and a day
Thinking of the future so far away
But the future is a sleeping aid
A seducer that causes the real to fade
And in sleep time creeps like mist
Allowing life to turn and twist

The day will come without a call
When all the thoughts will have to fall
When we realize the future will not last
Because the future has become our past

Will I stop then, all these dreams
Fed by Winter's moonlit beams?
To walk the straight and narrow line
Forsaking private worlds sublime?

Perhaps I may but I pray I not
For I hold true to a simple thought:
As the fool laughs despite the pain
And the flower wilts in the face of rain
A moment of reality is all I face
Tomorrow reality I shall displace.
